5 things I like about the Polar Pacer Pro GPS watch

I love running with gadgets. Ever since I started running in 2009, I’ve always loved collecting data on my running performance…distance, time, heart rate, pace, you name it. GPS watches were very basic back then, I ran with the Polar M400 in 2014 and it instantly became one of my favorites.

5 things I like about the Polar Pacer Pro GPS watch

Polar used to be distributed locally by Toby’s Sports and RUNNR but they eventually dropped the brand and with no support I have since switched to another watch brand as well. But it was only a few years ago that Dan’s Bike Shop took Polar under its wing and started promoting and supporting the new generation of Polar watches locally.

I recently got the new Polar Pacer Pro, this watch is positioned as one of their mid-range running watches. If you are looking for a new GPS watch then here are some of the things I like about the Polar Pacer Pro.

Support us by attending our events

1. Simple elegant design

Coming from a boxy shape, the new generation Polar sports watches including the Pacer Pro have adopted the sporty, round, simple and elegant design. It’s now easier to pair the watch for sports or fashion. The Pacer Pro is also available in 5 colors: Autumn Maroon, Carbon Grey, Snow White, Midnight Blue and Aurora Green.

2. Super light weight

The Polar Pacer Pro comes with a 1.2-inch memory-in-pixel non-touch (240×240) in a plastic case/aluminum frame and weighs only 41g. The design of the watch is so slim and light that sometimes I forget I’m even wearing it while running. It’s also light enough that I think I can wear it all day and to bed comfortably.

3. Long battery life

Gone are the days when you had to charge your GPS watches every day. Polar Pacer Pro lasts more than a week in standby mode and up to 35 hours with GPS and heart rate monitor activated. It’s perfect for marathon runners and even ultramarathoners without having to worry about the watch dying mid-race.

4. New generation optical heart rate monitor

Polar is primarily known for its heart rate monitor technology called GPS. And one of the main benefits of a Polar Pro is that it comes with the latest Precision Prime optical heart rate monitor.

Based on their website, Precision Prime is a state-of-the-art solution to overcome motion issues to offer the best optical heart rate monitoring possible. Reliable wear detection activates HR measurement only when the product with Polar Precision Prime technology is properly worn on the wrist, for training sessions and 24/7 activity tracking.

5. Wrist power measurement

Last but not least, the most interesting feature is that the Polar Pace Pro comes with wrist-based power measurement. This seems to be the latest trend in running watches these days, which instead of heart rate are now using mileage as the basis for performance. You used to have to buy a separate stride sensor that can measure mileage, but modern watches like the Pacer Pro have them built into their watches.

Although this is something new and accuracy is still an issue. Polar promised their watch uses the most sophisticated algorithm to provide consistent power measurement results.
