Attorney General Jesus Crispin Remulla said Friday that more cases are due to be filed Monday against those involved in the killing of broadcaster Percy Lapid.
Remulla made the statement when asked about the mastermind behind the fatal shooting of Lapid, whose real name is Percival Mabasa.
“Specify the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police. They talk among themselves about the cases they file because they file more cases on Monday I think,” he told reporters.
According to him, investigators continue to plan interviews with two or more people who are “very high up the chain in the Percy Lapid case.”
“Let the NBI and the PNP name the people they want to indict in court,” Remulla said.
The investigation into the murder charge against confessed gunman Joel Escorial and his three other accomplices continued on Friday.
Escorial, who surrendered to police, identified the accomplices as siblings Israel and Edmund Dimaculangan and one Orly, all of whom are still at large.
Lapid, an online show host and tabloid columnist, was shot dead in Las Piñas City on October 3.
On October 18, Escorial was presented to the media following its surrender.
Aside from the three accomplices, Escorial also identified two intermediaries in the plot to kill Lapid as Cristito Villamor and Christopher Bacoto, who were incarcerated in New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) prison facility. , respectively.
On October 20, Remulla said Villamor died on NBP on October 18, the same day Escorial was presented to the media.
According to John Consulta’s 24 Oras report Thursday, a Bilibid inmate going by the alias “Jocon” said in an affidavit that a mayor or alias May-may ordered him and three other inmates to kill Villamor.
Jocon’s testimony suggested it was he who held the plastic bag to choke Villamor. His three companions held the suspected intermediary’s hands, arms and feet. – Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
