NEW DELHI: The Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the schedule of much-anticipated elections for the 182-seat Gujarat Assembly. Voting takes place in two phases; the first on December 1st and the second on December 5th.

The results will be announced on December 8, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said during a news conference in New Delhi.

The term of office of the 182-member State Assembly of Gujarat ends on February 18, 2023

The chief election commissioner said that over 4.9 million eligible voters were eligible to vote this year. More than 51,000 polling stations will be set up, including more than 34,000 in rural areas.

A special observer for the accessibility and inclusion of women, the elderly and people with disabilities will be deployed in the upcoming general elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, Kumar said.

Himachal Pradesh will vote on November 12th and the count will take place on December 8th. The commission recently visited the two states to take stock of election preparations.
