Xpat Pinoy | MANILA, July 23, 2025 — U.S.-based Bon Secours Mercy Health (BSMH) has revealed plans to invest up to $500 million to grow its operations in the Philippines, including the development of a world-class tertiary hospital. The announcement came after a strategic meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his official visit to Washington, D.C. from July 20 to 22, where the healthcare company expressed strong interest in strengthening its Philippine presence.
What’s New?
BSMH, headquartered in Ohio, is one of the largest Catholic healthcare systems in the U.S., with $13 billion in annual revenue. The company currently operates in the Philippines through Nordic and Bon Secours Mercy Health Philippines, employing around 170 local staff to support its global business services. With this bold expansion, BSMH aims to grow its Filipino workforce to about 1,200 employees—a massive leap in local job generation.
The core of the investment involves building a state-of-the-art tertiary hospital, designed to deliver premium healthcare not only for local communities but also for BSMH’s global ecosystem. John Starcher, the company’s President and CEO, emphasized their commitment: “We’re proud to expand our global reach and deepen our existing commitment in the Philippines. This is the next step in providing innovative healthcare delivery and greater access to high-quality services.”
Health Meets Opportunity
Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go welcomed the announcement, describing it as a “transformative opportunity” for the healthcare and service sectors in the country. “This is a strong vote of confidence in the Philippines,” he said. “We’ll work closely with BSMH to ensure this investment results in real benefits—world-class facilities, cutting-edge medical equipment, and meaningful employment.”
The plan marks a major milestone in the Philippines’ strategy to attract high-impact foreign investments that not only boost employment but also enhance critical infrastructure such as healthcare.
